BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Iran is focused on implementing various projects to slow the decline in gas production from the South Pars/North Dome gas field, which it shares with Qatar, the Executive Director of Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company, Turaj Dehgani said on October 19 at a meeting of company directors, Trend reports.
Dehgani noted that timely decision-making regarding production operations, along with both short-term and long-term plans for drilling wells in the field, is a priority.
He added that the Iranian section of the South Pars gas field has the potential to produce 700 million cubic meters of gas per day, contributing significantly to the country's gas supply. Under the plans set by Iran's Ministry of Petroleum, production from this field is expected to increase.
Notably, Iran holds the second-largest natural gas reserves in the world, with approximately 34 trillion cubic meters. Currently, 22 gas fields are active in the country.
The South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint venture between Iran and Qatar, boasting an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, of which 36 trillion cubic meters are deemed extractable. Iran's share from this field includes 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
