BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Of the $6 billion of agricultural products exported by Iran per year, $2.9 billion is accounted for horticultural crops, Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Mohammad-Mehdi Boroumandi told local media, Trend reports.

According to him, this means that 47 percent of Iran's agricultural exports account for horticultural crops. Iran exports between 2.9 and 3 million tons of horticultural products to 100 countries annually.

Boroumandi noted that Iran has about 3 million ha of gardens and grows about 26 million tons of horticultural crops.

He added that 28,000 hectares of them are greenhouses and 290,000 hectares are lands where medicinal plants are grown.

The deputy minister noted that all fruits in Iran are produced in sufficient quantity except four fruits (banana, pineapple, coconut, and mango). Just local production of the four mentioned fruits is not enough.

Iran cultivates more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year on average.
