(IRNA) -. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here Friday that Moscow invariably supports a negotiated settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear problem.
In a meeting with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani here on Friday, Lavrov called Iran-Russia ties "significant" and said the stable ties can play an effective role in the international level, reports Trend.
Larijani too termed Tehran-Moscow post-Islamic Revolution ties as "strategic" and said the two sides share similar political, economic, military and regional stances.
He said that under present conditions, Iran and Russia should take "common interests" and not just "assistance" into consideration.
Referring to the US intervention in the region, recent legislative election results in the US and Iraq's occupation, which has led to escalation of tension and insecurity in the country, Larijani said under present conditions the Iraq, Afghanistan, Middle East and Persian Gulf problems have brought about new conditions in Iraq and the country can now play a graver role.
