Researchers at Iran's Paradise Tech Park have introduced a nano-additive for diesel fuel that they claim reduces engine diesels' air pollution by 70 percent.
Pointing out that this class of additive is the most advance one existing in the world, researcher Mohammad Sadeq Esmaili said right now only the UK and US produce this type of additive, ISNA news agency reported Oct. 27.
He added the additive improves diesel engines' internal combustion and reduces fuel consumption by 5-20 percent as well.
Esmaili said one liter of the additive is enough to be blended with 1000 liters of gas oil to be used in diesel engines.
He explained that using the additive reduced the production of unburnt HC by 70, CO2 by 25, and soot by 25 percent.
If mass-produced, the product can be a great help to Iran to lower the damage its environment is suffering every day. The capital Tehran is one of the most polluted cities in the world and situations are not much better in many other big cities across the country. Low-efficiency vehicles and low-quality fuels are two main reasons behind the pollution.
