Iran imported 1.826 million tons of staple food products through ports during the last calendar month (ended Jan. 20).
The figure indicates a rise by 13.7 percent compared to the preceding month, according to the data released by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.
The food products mentioned in the report include wheat, barley, butter, soy, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and meat products.
The country loaded and unloaded 1.873 million tons of food products at its ports in the one-month period, indicating a 2.2 percent fall year-on-year.
In the meantime, the country exported 45,977 tons of staple food products through the organization’s ports in the period, compared to 56,458 tons in the preceding month.
According to the report, 17 ports - Abadan, Arvandkenar, Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, Anzali, Bushehr, Tiab, Jask, Chabahar, Chavibdeh, Khorramshahr, Shahid Bahonar, Shahid Rajaee, Fereydounkenar, Qeshm, Lengeh and Noshahr - were involved in loading/unloading of staple food products during the period.
The report also unveils that over 665,021 tons of fertilizers and chemicals were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports, which was 64.7 percent more compared to the same month of preceding year. The volume of the unloaded fertilizers and chemicals was 78,548 tons in the one-month period from Dec. 21, 2017 to Jan. 20, 2018.
A report by the Agriculture Ministry of Iran unveils that the country imported 233,576.6 tons of various fertilizers, worth $141.372 million in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, indicating a rise by 47.8 percent in terms of volume and 16.9 percent in terms of value, year-on-year.
Iran also exported 2.37 million tons of various fertilizers, worth $504.5 million during the 9-month period. Iran’s fertilizer exports witnessed a fall by 3.7 percent in terms of volume and 15 percent in terms of value, year-on-year.
Iranian ports saw loading and unloading of a total of 12.71 million tons of various goods and commodities, including food and metal products, between Dec. 21, 2017 to Jan. 20, 2018, down 2.3 percent year-on-year.
In total, over 129 million tons of various goods were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports during the current fiscal year.
This is 4.9 percent more than the figure for the same period of preceding year (March 20, 2016-March 21, 2017).
