Speaking in the Rose Garden at the White House, Obama welcomed the new opportunity the people of Libya now have "to determine their own destiny in a new and democratic Libya."
"Today we can say, the Gaddafi regime has come to an end," Obama said.
Obama said the United States looked forward to the "quick formation of an interim government" and "Libya's first free and fair elections."
He also called on the new leaders of Libya to work with the international community to secure dangerous materials and protect the rights of all Libyans.
Obama also pledged support to Libya's future developments.
