( dpa ) - The US space shuttle Atlantis lifted off on Thursday bound for the International Space Station to deliver a long-awaited laboratory fabricated in Europe.
Atlantis boomed off the launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida at 2:45 pm (1945 GMT) under clear blue skies and climbed toward orbit.
