An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck New Zealand North Island's east coast off Gisborne region on Wednesday night, Xinhua reported, referring to GNS Science.
The quake struck at 11:12 p.m. local time Wednesday (11:12 GMT Wednesday), 40 km east of the North Island city of Gisborne and had a focal depth of 20 km, New Zealand's Geological and Nuclear Science reported on Thursday.
Gisborne police said the quake felt like a "mild quiver" but there were no immediate reports of damage.
