The Afghan National Army backed by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) wiped out seven insurgents during an operation against Taliban militants in Afghanistan's restive Helmand province in south Afghanistan, Afghan army commander in the region said on Monday.

"The joint forces raided a Taliban hideout in Musa Qala district on Sunday and killed seven rebels," General Shir Monday Zazi told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on the troops or civilians, he emphasized.

The troops discovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition which had been used against Afghan and international forces, the commander added.

Taliban militants, who staged a bloody comeback four years ago, have vowed to speed up their attacks against Afghan and the NATO- led forces this year in the post-Taliban central Asian state.
