Large-scale exercises involving more than 4,000 paratroopers will begin in two Central Russian regions on Monday, Airborne Troops spokesman Col. Alexander Cherednik said, RIA Novosti reported.
The exercises in Ivanovo and Kostroma Regions will be held through August 28 under the command of Russian Airborne Troops Commander Lt. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov. It will also involve 300 units of equipment.
Over 30 vehicles and weapons will be airdropped during the exercises.
The Airborne Troops are considered the most capable mobile assault forces in Russia. Various estimates put the current personnel at about 48,000 troops deployed in four divisions and a brigade.
