Businessman Asliturk extradited to Turkey from UK

Businessman Orhan Asliturk has been brought to Istanbul after the United Kingdom decided to extradite him Turkey, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkey issued three warrants for Asliturk's arrest over fictive export, fraud and forgery of documents. Asliturk was apprehended in 2001 in the United States. However, he was released when extradition procedures were delayed.

Then, the businessmen, sought with red notice, was caught in Spain on March 31, 2008. Turkey asked extradition of Asliturk but he was freed once again since files against him were subject to prescription.

When Asliturk was found in the United States, he was kept in a jail in London from April to December 2010 since Ankara applied to British authorities for his extradition. British court decided to extradite him in February 2011.

Asliturk, who made fictive export worth $1.7 billion and owes TL437 million in unpaid tax, is expected to be appear before the court in the coming days.
