Turkey is closely monitoring the situation in Syria, and Ankara is ready to do everything to end the violence in the country, the advisor to President of Turkey on the Middle East, Ershad Hurmuzlu, told Trend on Thursday.
"The situation in Syria worries us. Turkey is preparing to extend sanctions against Syria, both economic and diplomatic," Hurmuzlu said.
However, he did not note exactly what areas the sanction will include, stressing that sanctions are at the level of preparation and it is impossible to say anything concrete. Turkey is considering all options for ending the violence in Syria and the peaceful settlement of the crisis, he said.
Touching upon the issue of military intervention in Syria, Hurmuzlu noted that Turkey wants a political settlement of the Syrian problem without military action.
Earlier, France and Belgium said they are ready to take part in a military intervention in Syria, if the relevant decision is made by the UN Security Council. Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said earlier that the Pentagon is ready to develop military options against Syria.
On the eve of the visit to Damascus of UN-Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan, who on Tuesday arrived in Syria, there was a brutal attack on a Hula village near the city of Homs in the country's west which killed over 100 civilians.
After that the U.S., Spain, UK, Italy, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Japan, Turkey and other countries declared Syrian ambassadors personas non-grata.
The Syrian authorities deny any involvement in the tragedy and blame Islamic militants for the killings.
According to UN figures, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 10,000.
There is an agreement on a ceasefire within the plan of the UN and Arab League special envoy on resolving the situation, Kofi Annan. However, the conflict sides regularly report about new armed incidents and victims.
