The intensified talks on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict give more hopes that the problem will be solved, Azerbaijani Parliament's Vice Speaker said.

"The intensified talks on the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict give more hopes the conflict will be addressed. Statements made by Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in Russia give ground to be optimistic," Vice Speaker and head of Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE Bahar Muradova said in his interview with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party official Web site.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Muradova said the afore-said demonstrates progress in the talks. "If sides make optimistic statements on the resolution of the conflict, we must believe it. Of course, Azerbaijan insists on fair resolution of the problem and will never change position," vice speaker said.
