Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov considers inappropriate the politicization of the European Court's decision in the case of journalist Eynulla Fatullayev.
"Azerbaijan has a Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, which will comment on the issue after its clarification," Asadov said at a parliamentary meeting today.
He said currently there is no need to politicize the issue.
"International organizations often claim that Azerbaijani courts are politicized. But the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, accusing us of doing so, is politicized itself," Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ziyafet Asgarov said.
Asgarov said IDPs from the Lachin region appealed to the European Court 2.5 years ago.
"Armenians made a similar statement in 2009. Despite this, the court decided to consider the complaints of Azerbaijanis and Armenians together. Is it fair?" he said.
The European Court's decisions cannot be enforced, Asgarov added.
"We have complained to the Grand Chamber [European Court]. The decision will be sent to the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, and the plenary session will take a decision," he said.
Last week, the European Court demanded the immediate release of Fatullayev.
