The Azerbaijani State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs wants to establish a family psychological institute in Azerbaijan.

The institution would handle people's psychological problems, Deputy State Committee Chairman Aynur Sofiyeva said.

"Measures would be taken to help them get rid of the stress they receive from media, the Internet and the environment. We see suicide cases very often. The solution is to create a family psychological institute," Sofiyeva said.

Azerbaijan lacks family psychological practices, she said, and it is important to work in this direction.

She added that the number of suicides has increased in recent years, and blamed parents.

"The main responsibility lies on the parents," she said. "Parents should be attentive to their children and immediately contact a psychologist in case of changes to their mental state."

"A child does not immediately decide on suicide. His psychological state brings him to make this decision gradually," Sofiyeva said.

She added that psychologists are stigmatized in Azerbaijan as a result of misunderstand.

"People think it is wrong to see a psychologist. They are afraid they will be misunderstood," she said.
