Ninety eight percent out of 16308 monuments registered in the country needs to be reconstructed, Adalyat Valiyev, Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister, said during today's discussing on the draft On State Budget 2007 in the Permanent Commission for Culture of the Milli Majlis (Parliament), Trend reports.
The Deputy Culture Minister pointed out that monuments of an international importance are reconstructed under the financial assistance of international organizations. Monuments of a local importance must be reconstructed at the expense of the State Budget. He said that the Culture and Tourism Ministry has not enough capacities to implement it. Mr. Valiyev also pointed out that totally 16308 historic monuments have been registered, and 98 percent out of this number needs to be reconstructed.
The Deputy Minister told that 40 libraries are functioning within residential construction and do not have their own premises. He pointed out that it is necessary to give new premises to them. He also said that over the last three years, the museums that are under the power of the District Departments of the Culture Ministry have been reconstructed. However, museums that are in the rural areas have not been reconstructed yet.
