ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 26. Kazakhstan is aiming for leadership in the oil and gas chemical industry with new investments, projects, and the construction of a new polyethylene production plant, said Almasadam Satkaliev, during an expanded meeting of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
According to Satkaliyev, one of the pivotal initiatives will
involve the establishment of a polyethylene synthesis facility in
the Atyrau region.
"The plans include the start of construction of a polyethylene
plant with a capacity of 1,250,000 tons/year in the Atyrau region,"
said the minister.
In addition, the industry is addressing issues related to financing the Gas Separation Complex project and the introduction of mandatory labeling of motor oils to protect the market from counterfeit products. The development of a specialized law on the "Oil and Gas Chemical Industry" is also underway.
By the conclusion of 2024, Kazakhstan's output of oil and gas chemical derivatives reached 540,000 tons, with projections for 2025 indicating an anticipated escalation to 550,000 tons.
In October 2024, the Ministry of Energy developed and approved a Roadmap for the development of the oil and gas chemical industry for 2024-2030. The Roadmap includes the implementation of large projects, infrastructure construction, and the development of industry stimulation measures.
In December 2024, the inaugural Investment Agreement within the oil and gas chemical sector received approval, specifically targeting the synthesis of methanol.
Today, in Kazakhstan's capital city, Astana, an extended session of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is taking place, dedicated to the ministry's achievements in 2024 and its goals for 2025. The focus is on key performance indicators of the country's fuel and energy complex.
