ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 14. The Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan has released data on the development of livestock farming in the country for 2024, as well as from January through March 2025, Trend reports.
According to preliminary data for 2024, the physical volume
index (PVI) of gross livestock production amounted to 103.6 percent
compared to the previous year.
“The final data on gross agricultural output is expected to be
published on May 26, 2025, as part of the statistical work plan for
2025,” noted the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan.
The increase was attributed to the growth in the production of key
livestock products, such as cattle and poultry slaughter, milk
production, and egg production in agricultural formations. The
Bureau clarified that agricultural formations include agricultural
enterprises, as well as individual entrepreneurs and peasant or
farm households.
In 2024, the total volume of livestock and poultry slaughter and sales (in live weight) increased by 3.9 percent compared to 2023, reaching 1.99 million tons. Milk production rose by 4.5 percent, totaling 3.63 million tons, and egg production increased by 1.3 percent, reaching 4.48 billion eggs.
As of January 1, 2025:
The livestock population increased compared to the beginning of
2024: Horse population grew by 13 percent (to 4.35 million head),
camels increased by 5.9 percent, cattle grew by 20.6 percent (to
7.98 million head), sheep and goats rose by 8.3 percent (to 20.22
million head), poultry grew by 3.3 percent (to 45.65 million head),
however, the pig population decreased by 0.8 percent (to 479,700
head).
“The average milk yield per dairy cow in 2024 decreased by 0.7
percent (in agricultural formations, it increased by 7.4 percent),
totaling 2,524 kg,” the Bureau reported.
Additionally, the average live weight of cattle slaughtered or sold
for slaughter decreased by 0.6 percent (in agricultural formations,
it decreased by 1.4 percent) to 340 kg. At the same time, the egg
productivity of laying hens increased by 2.1 percent (in
agricultural formations, it increased by 1.9 percent), with an
average of 243 eggs in 2024.
For the first quarter of 2025:
The Bureau of National Statistics also published livestock
production data for the first quarter of 2025.
“In the first three months of this year, 407,613 tons of livestock
and poultry were slaughtered or sold for slaughter (in live
weight), which is 2.7 percent more than in the same period in 2024
(396,794 tons),” the Bureau stated.
Milk production for January-March 2025 amounted to 630,000 tons, an
8.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 (580,000
tons).
“However, egg production decreased by 2.3 percent, to 1.02 billion
eggs, compared to 1.05 billion eggs produced in the first quarter
of 2024,” the Bureau noted.
As of April 1, 2025, the cattle population increased by 23 percent year-on-year, reaching 8.9 million head (including 4.4 million cows). According to the data of bureau, the sheep population reached 20.7 million head (+8.8 percent year-on-year), while the goat population decreased by 1.6 percent to 1.995 million head. The pig population fell by 0.5 percent to 527,000 head, and the horse population grew by 11.6 percent to 4.4 million head. The camel population increased by 8.5 percent to 307,000 head, while the poultry population rose by 5.9 percent to 48.6 million head.
