ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 15. During a working visit to the Kostanay Region, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the restoration process of the Arkalyk airport, which plays a key role in ensuring air transport connectivity, Trend reports.
Deputy Akim (Governor) of the Kostanay Region, Berik Tanzharikov, stated that the airport has a runway 2,500 meters long and 50 meters wide, allowing it to accommodate medium-class aircraft.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the strategic importance of this project.
"Kazakhstan has vast potential in the transport sector and must become a key transit hub in the region. We are systematically developing the necessary infrastructure - this is a strategic task. It is important to implement projects as quickly as possible, without compromising quality," he added.
As part of the project, reconstruction of the terminal, runway, and other infrastructure facilities is planned. Restoration work on the airport is scheduled to begin this year.
During his visit to the Kostanay Region, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov also inspected the implementation of President Tokayev’s directives, voiced at the 4th meeting of the National Kurultai and the Security Council, regarding the development of the road network, the restoration of the Arkalyk airport, the modernization of the energy supply system, and the development of renewable energy sources (RES).
