TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 10. Navoi Mining & Metallurgical Company (NMMC), the world’s fourth-largest gold producer, has announced several capital projects aimed at enhancing production efficiency and boosting output, Trend reports.
A flagship initiative is the completion of feasibility studies for the “Muruntau Mine Development, Phase V, Stage 2” investment project, which aims to increase ore deliveries from the Muruntau mine to Processing Plant №2 to 60 million tons annually.
At the same time, the company is advancing other key projects within its capital investment program. The “Processing Plant №7 Expansion” project, a cornerstone of NMMC’s sustainable development strategy through 2030, is designed to increase precious metals production capacity and generate new employment opportunities by processing an additional 26 million tons of tailings. This expansion will also incorporate state-of-the-art technologies and improve energy efficiency.
Significant progress is also underway on the “Ore Mining at the Kokpatas and Daugyztau Gold Deposits (Phase III)” project, which will enable Processing Plant №3 to process up to 10 million tons of ore extracted from these deposits annually.
A major engineering milestone was recently reached under the “Development of the Lower Horizons of the Zarmitan Deposit” project with the commissioning of a vertical skip shaft at the Zarmitan mine. Measuring 6.5 meters in diameter and 1,000 meters deep, this shaft represents a significant advancement for Uzbekistan’s mining industry. It will facilitate the annual extraction of approximately 1.4 million tons of ore for delivery to Processing Plant №4, while also enabling efficient transport of personnel and equipment, groundwater pumping, and ventilation within the mine.
In line with NMMC’s Sustainable Development Program through 2030, work is ongoing to expand and upgrade the tailings storage facility at Processing Plant №2. This includes the construction of new containment cells designed to jointly store tailings from Processing Plants №2 and №7 through 2032, ensuring the safe and stable management of industrial waste generated by the company’s operations.
Navoi Mining & Metallurgical Company operates the Muruntau-Myutenbay mine, the world’s largest open-pit gold deposit, with a resource base exceeding 101 million ounces. Overall, the company’s total mineral resource base stands at approximately 140 million ounces.
