BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25. Eni reported a slight decline in hydrocarbon production in Kazakhstan during the second quarter of 2025, with volumes totaling 161 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboe/d), down from 175 kboe/d in the first quarter, according to the company’s latest earnings release, Trend reports.
The figure, however, remains above the 156 kboe/d recorded in the same period last year.
The quarter-on-quarter decline was driven primarily by weaker natural gas output, which fell to 240 kboe/d in Q2 from 285 kboe/d in Q1. Despite the dip, gas production still rose compared to 229 kboe/d in 2Q2024, reflecting a year-on-year improvement of nearly 5%.
On the liquids side, production was more stable. Eni produced 115 kboe/d of liquids in 2Q2025, slightly down from 120 kboe/d in Q1 but up from 112 kboe/d a year earlier.
For the first half of the year, Kazakhstan’s total production averaged 168 kboe/d, a 5% increase compared to 160 kboe/d in 1H2024. This was supported by a steady rise in both oil and gas output, with liquids increasing to 118 kboe/d from 113 kboe/d and gas rising to 263 kboe/d from 247 kboe/d year-on-year.
The results in Kazakhstan contrast with Eni’s broader upstream performance, where total hydrocarbon production averaged 1.67 million boe/d in Q2 2025 - down 3% from the previous year. The company attributed the global decline primarily to portfolio exits completed in 2024, including in Nigeria, Alaska, and Congo. Although new production in Indonesia and Norway and project ramp-ups elsewhere provided some relief, Kazakhstan's lower gas nominations were among the regional factors contributing to the overall softness.
