BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-exports dropped 62% year-on-year in July 2025 to 0.18 million tons (Mt), marking the lowest level for the month since 2020, according to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Trend reports.
The decline was primarily driven by Spain, with additional reductions from Indonesia and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI).
From January to July 2025, total global LNG re-exports reached 2.04 Mt, up 7.3% year-on-year. The growth during the first seven months was supported by increased re-exports from Brazil, China, and Indonesia, which offset significant declines from Spain and the USVI.
Spain’s drop in LNG re-exports reflected strong domestic demand, with only small volumes sent to Italy. In Indonesia, weaker Asian demand in July led to a reduction in re-export activity, with only one LNG cargo sent to Japan compared to two in July 2024. The cessation of LNG re-exports from the USVI was linked to the start of regular LNG shipments from the US to Puerto Rico earlier this year.
