The premiums of Azerbaijani insurance companies were increased by 21.1 percent in 2008 compared to 2007, the Azerbaijani Finance Ministry reported.
The premiums from Life insurance totaled 1 million manat. This figure is less compared to 2007. 156.41 million manat accounts for Non-life insurance with growth rate of 25.4 percent (124.76 manat). 21.85 million manat accounts for obligatory insurance with growth rate of 4 percent (21.01 million manat).
In 2008, the insurance premiums were increased by 35.5 percent and reached 49.81 million manat. In 2007, the figure reached 36.77 million manat.
In 2008, 0.39 million manat with the growth rate of 62.5 percent (0.24 million manat) accounted for Life insurance. 38.92 million manats with the growth rate of 34.3 percent (28.97 million manats) accounted for Non-life insurance. 10.5 million mamants with the growth rate of 38.9 percent (7.56 million manats) accounted for obligatory insurance.
There are 28 insurance and one re-insurance company in Azerbaijan.
On Jan. 30, the official currency rate is 0.8067 manat to $1.
