Azerbaijan, Baku, April 14 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/
The Russian Sarmat-1 ship will be released this week, the Azerbaijan State Sea Administration Chairman Gudrat Gurbanov said.
Sarmat-1 suffered a disaster 30 miles from Baku in late 2008. A Caspian Sea Oil Fleet vessel rescued and towed the ship to Baku.
"The challenge has been solved. The ship will be released before the end of this week," Gurbanov added.
Sarmat-1 was detained by Azerbaijani court. The vessel was sailing from Astrakhan, Russia, to Anzali, Iran, with a cargo of lumber and metal (1655.2 tons).
The ship was arrested because owner refused to reimburse expenditures in line with the 1989 International Convention on Rescue Operations. The Caspian Sea Oil Fleet has applied to the International Maritime Arbitration to the Greek Hill Dickinson representative to resolve the issue.
A technical malfunction in the steering compartment caused an accident. Other damages resulting from the accident were also repaired in Baku.
The Astrakhan Rescue Coordination Center reported Sarmat-1 was in distress on Dec. 15.
Sarmat-1 was built in 1986. There were no causalities.
