Kazakh Food Corporation raises grain purchase price

Kazakh State Food Contract Corporation has increased grain purchase price up to 21,000 tenge ($142) per ton, Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov said on Tuesday.

"The State Commission decided to increase price of grain purchase by the Food Contract Corporation up to 21,000 tenge per ton," Mamytbekov wrote on his twitter page.

Earlier, the Food Contract Corporation purchased grain at 16,500 tenge ($111) per ton.

Kazakhstan is one of the world's largest grain exporters. In 2011 Kazakhstan collected almost 27 million tons of grain in net weight. This is a record grain harvest within the years of independence. Eight million tons of the grain harvest will be used for domestic consumption. Export potential is estimated at 15 million tons. Eight million tons will be purchased by the Food Contract Corporation to stabilize the market.
