Iran's gas import is more than its export by about one billion cubic meters, former managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company, Nosratollah Seifi said, Iranian Donya-e-eqtesad newspaper reported.
He went on to note that, Iran exports approximately 9 billion cubic meters of gas per year, while the gas import figure stands at 10 billion cubic meters.
Iran produces some 152 billion cubic meters of natural gas per each year, Seifi said adding that the country's yearly gas consumption reaches 152 billion cubic meters.
Iran shares 16 percent of the world's gas reserves, while its share from gas trade in the world stands at 2 percent, he said.
According to the BP statistics, the world gas trade stood at 1025.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) during 2011, with Iran shared 19.1 bcm of that amount, seifi stated.
Iran also exported about 9 bcm of gas to Turkey with $4.5 billion worth and imports around 4.5 bcm gas from Turkmenistan with $2.3 billion worth in 2012, while the gas import/export figures remained unchanged during current year.
Then Iran's net revenue from gas deal has been about $1 billion during the last five months.
Early in September Iranian media outlets informed that Iran's oil ministry is preparing facilities to pump 700 million cubic meters of gas per day to the national gas network this winter to meet domestic use in the cold months.
The oil ministry is trying hard to inaugurate at least one phases 15 or 16 of the South Pars gas field by winter, the SHANA News Agency reported.
A part of phase 12 is also expected to come on steam then.
The country's total gas reserves have been estimated at more than 33.1 trillion cubic meters.
