The Turkmen Ministry of Communications has made a bid for obtaining the Islamic Development Bank’s (IDB) funds in the amount of $273 million.
The loan is intended to cover the costs for telecommunication network development projects, the Turkmen Ministry of Communications said in a message.
According to the message, the projects will be co-financed together with the IDB and the Turkmen Ministry of Communications.
The projects include the following components:
1. Development of mobile communication network in Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat city and the country’s Ahal, Balkan, Dasoguz, Lebap and Mary districts.
2. Modernization of multiservice data transmission network (Internet).
3. Expansion and development of the fixed telephony network.
4. Installation of an international telephone exchange based on a multiservice IMS platform.
5. Development of the FM radio network.
6. Expansion and modernization of the billing system platform for the Ashgabat city telephone network and for the mobile operator.
7. Consulting services for control over detailed design, tender process and supervision.
8. Financial audit.
The components financed by IDB will be purchased through international competitive bidding.
