Germany supports Georgia to implement energy sector reform

Germany will assist Georgia in the implementation of the energy sector reform in the country, said the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia David Tvalabeishvili, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

He made the remarks at the meeting with the representative of the German bank KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) Hans Werner.

On July 18 David Tvalabeishvili and Hans Werner signed the agreement on financing of the program for rendering consulting services.

The financial resources allocated within the program will be directed to expansion of network of electricity transmission and strengthening of power supply system of Georgia and it is a preliminary condition of ensuring energy security and power independence of the country.

Also between the parties the agreement on financing of consulting services within the four-year plan of reforming of the energy sector was signed.

“Over the past 20 years, fruitful cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and Georgia in the field of energy has achieved significant success. In recent years, Germany has become one of the main partner countries, donors in the field of energy infrastructure projects, as well as the development of renewable energy sources,” said David Tvalabeishvili.

It especially allocated active technical, financial and expert support of German banks in the field of development of the energy sector of Georgia.
