Some 12,525 foreign citizens worked in Georgia in 2019, which is 828 persons more compared to 2018, Trend reports referring to Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
As reported, the foreigners working in Georgia in 2019 are citizens from 106.
The main countries from where the foreign workers came include Turkey – 2,828 workers, Azerbaijan – 1,433 workers, China – 1,411 workers, Ukraine – 1,372 workers, Russia – 1,148 workers, Iran – 771 workers, India – 390 workers, Kazakhstan – 317 workers, and Belarus – 198 workers.
Countries such as the Republic of Burundi, Chile, Ethiopia, the Republic of Fiji, Colombia, Costa Rica, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Mozambique, Oman, Kuwait, Senegal, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zimbabwe are represented by one person each, the report said.
As of today, about 1.7 million people are recorded as employed in Georgia, out of which 800,000 are self-employed, of which 70-80 percent is engaged in agricultural activities.
According to the data of Georgian National Statistical Office, as of the third quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in urban settlements of Georgia reached 16.6 percent, while the unemployment rate in rural settlements was only 5.5 percent.
