Iran's aluminum production potential will reach 875,000 tons a year, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Reza Rahmani said.
“Some 276,000 tons of aluminum ingots were produced last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 20, 2020),” Rahmani added, Trend reports referring to the ministry’s website.
The minister added that after commissioning of the South Aluminum Plant at the Lamerd special economic zone in Iran’s southern Fars province, the production volume will exceed 450,000 tons.
“Thus, Iran's aluminum production will increase by 63 percent this year compared to last Iranian year,” Rahmani said.
"The investments worth $1.2 billion were made in the construction of the South Aluminum Plant and it may produce 300,000 tons of aluminum ingots a year," the minister said.
“After commissioning of the plant, 6,500 people will be provided with jobs,” Rahmani said. “A special platform worth $170 million was created in the Parsian Energy Intensive Industrial Special Economic Zone to load and unload the produced goods.”
“An agreement was signed between the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade to produce the final aluminum products and to put an end to Iran's dependence on foreign countries regarding needle coke and sponge coke,” the minister said. “Thus, these products will be produced as a result of making investments in the Iranian refineries."
Rahmani stressed that the construction of two plants will be launched this year. The first plant is the Nepheline Syenite Plant while the second plant is the Aral Alumina Plant.
The South Aluminum Plant will be commissioned on April 23.
