A refinery in Atyrau region (western Kazakhstan) will be reconstructed in late 2016, akim (head) of Atyrau oblast Baktykozha Izmukhambetov said at a briefing in the Central Communication Service under the President of Kazakhstan.
"The reconstruction of the Atyrau refinery consists of two phases," he said. "The first phase will be completed this year. The project envisages the production of aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, paraxylene. The second phase will be completed in late 2016. It envisages deep oil refining."
Izmukhambetov said that all three Kazakh oil refineries are being reconstructed.
He said that a lack of high octane gasoline is controlled by the Kazakh government.
