Turkmenistan plans to start the construction of a large gas processing plant in Derweze district of its Ahal province in May, the country's Oil and Gas Ministry said Apr.26.
The plant is meant to convert the natural gas into synthetic liquid fuels.
Under the decree signed by Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the consortium of companies consisting of LG and Hyundai (South Korea) and Itochu (Japan) were tasked to implement the project.
The new industrial complex is expected to process 3.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas and produce 1.1 million tons of diesel fuel, as well as over 400,000 tons of naphtha per year.
Currently, the first plant for converting the natural gas into gasoline is under construction in Derweze district.
This plant will process 1.785 billion cubic meters of gas per year and produce 600,000 tons of А-92 gasoline meeting the Euro-5 standard, as well as 300,000 tons of liquefied gas.
It is planned to commission the plant in 2018.
