Russian Gazprom is not considering lowering the price of natural gas for Georgia, said the press service of the company, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to the press service of the company, the price of natural gas for Georgia will remain the same.
As reported, Georgia bought 160 million cubic meters of natural gas in 2019. Georgia used to receive 10 percent of the gas transit from Russia and that Russia paid monetary transit fees to Georgia.
Earlier the Minister of Economy Natia Turnava said that the aim of the revision of the contract with Gazprom was to achieve a price reduction for Georgia.
"Given that world oil prices are falling, the current revision of the already existing contract with Gazprom serves to reduce the price. The price of natural gas should be reduced approximately by 15 percent," said Turnava.
According to her, Georgia plans to buy 200 million cubic metres of natural gas from Gazprom which is about eight per cent of the country’s total consumption of gas.
Meanwhile, Georgia has not bought natural gas from Russia since 2006 until last year.
According to the balance of natural gas in Georgia for 2020, the consumption of gas is projected at 2.5 billion cubic meters this year, of which 170 million cubic meters are expected from Russia. The remaining gas is planned to be imported from Azerbaijan.
