Iran's electricity generation potential has increased to 84,000 megawatts, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.
He made the remark at an event dedicated to the commissioning of Dalaho Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant.
Haeri stressed that the reason for this increase is the commissioning of the 2nd gas unit of the plant.
Haeri added that the plant has the potential to generate a total of 913 megawatts of electricity.
"The first gas unit of the plant was commissioned on December 10, 2019," he said.
The deputy minister noted that a total of 365 million euro was planned for the construction of the Dalaho plant. Of these funds, 220 million euro is provided by the National Development Fund of Iran and 145 million euros by the investor.
According to the Haeri, in total, 1,150 people will be employed with the full operation of this plant.
"This Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant will not only increase Iran's electricity generation potential, but also increase Iran's electricity export potential," he said.
The deputy minister emphasized that it is planned to put into operation thermal power plants in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021), which generate more than 2,000 megawatts of electricity. About 1,000 megawatts of it belong to the steam units of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine.
"Thus, 6 new steam units will start to operation at Iran's power plants in the current Iranian year," he said.
Haeri noted that 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas will be saved annually with the commissioning of steam units that produce electricity without using fuel.
