The Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry intends to exceed world average indices on the number of stationary telephones during the next years within the framework of the project "100 telephones for 100 families" in the country," Ali Abbasov, communication and IT minister said on Jan. 21.
"We completed to install telephones of entire country last year. Presently, an index of the number of telephones for each 100 people totals 15.5 units in the Republic," Abbasov said.
This index totaled 14.62 units in 2007.
The main purpose of the Communication Ministry is to increase this index twice for which some proposals to introduce benefits for laying of telephony down its zero cost are considered, Minister said.
"These are very important demands made of stationary telecommunication companies and we must observe its reviving in the first decade of 2009," Abbasov said.
Presently, 80% of entire telephony is electronic in Azerbaijan. This index totals 85% in Baku but 75% in regions.
