The port of Poti became a leader in Georgia in terms of processed cargo in 2019 with 8.6 million tons, Trend reports citing the data of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Supsa sea terminal came in second, which handled 3.7 million tons of cargo, followed by the port of Batumi with 3.2 million tons of cargo and the Kulevi sea terminal with 1.6 million tons of cargo.
In 2019, Georgia's seaports and sea terminals handled 17.2 million tons of cargo, which is 2.1 million tons more than in 2018.
In 2019, the total number of containers processed in the ports of Georgia increased.
In particular, last year, the seaports handled 647,816 containers, which is 193,878 more than in 2018.
The total volume of transported goods transported increased by 0.2 million tons in 2019 as compared to 2018 and amounted to 42.3 million tons.
Automobile transport leads in terms of the volume of transported goods with 31.4 million tons of cargo, followed by civil aviation with 24.9 million tons of cargo and railway with 10.9 million tons of cargo.
