ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 4. The Akim (Mayor) of Kazakhstan’s Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, discussed with the Managing Director of BYD for Central Asia, Ivan Cao, plans for launching the production of BYD electric buses at the existing commercial vehicle plant of the company “Astana Motors” in the Turksib district, Trend reports via the press service of the regional administration.
According to the information, the project involves a phased localization of production, from large-scale assembly to the implementation of welding, body painting processes, and the manufacturing of individual components. The flagship model of the BYD electric bus, the B12, will be produced, featuring the Blade battery integrated directly into the chassis.
This design enhances the strength and safety of the vehicle, provides an increased range, and reduces energy consumption. The Blade Battery is considered one of the safest in the world and comes with a 10-year warranty.
“Developing environmentally friendly transport is a strategic priority for Almaty. The launch of local electric bus production will not only reduce emissions but also create new jobs and strengthen the city’s industrial base,” said Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy.
The official data indicates that BYD has already delivered more than 110,000 electric buses, which are operating in 400 cities around the world - from the US and Europe to countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
