Kyrgyzstan’s gold exports soar in 1Q2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. Exports of gold from Kyrgyzstan registered a considerate increase year-on-year from January through March 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, during the period under review, the country exported 882.1 kg of gold, which is 35 times more than 22.9 kg in 1Q2022.

The value of the exports amounted for $50.2 million, increasing by 230 times over $217,400 in the same period of 2022.

In total amount, the exports of gold to Switzerland amounted to 654.2 kg for $40.5 million. While the exports to China reached 167.8 kg for $9.6 million.

Meanwhile, the statistical data shows that in the corresponding period last year, Kyrgyzstan exported gold only to Türkiye.

Back in 2022, Kyrgyzstan exported 2,905 kg of gold. The highest amount went to China with 2,020 kg, followed by Türkiye with 834 kg, and the UAE with 49 kg.

Kyrgyzstan has a wide range of minerals, including gold, which has contributed to the development of the country’s economy. One of the largest gold mines in Central Asia, Kumtor Gold Mine, is located in Kyrgyzstan and operates since 1997.
