BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 21. Kyrgyzstan is set to launch five new large hydroelectric power plants in 2024, the Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev said while delivering a report on the progress made in the energy sector in the first half of 2023, Trend reports.
The list of major hydroelectric power stations scheduled to be operational in 2024 includes:
Kara-Jygach HPP (Toktogul district, Jalal-Abad region) – 1 MW
Sary-Tash HPP (Toktogul district, Jalal-Abad region) – 1 MW
Amanat-Chuy HPP (Issyk-Ata district, Chuy region) – 0.5 MW
Adyn-Unkur HPP (Kara-Suu district, Osh city) – 0.85 MW
SiEnEi Energy HPP (Kemin district, Chuy region) – 12 MW
The minister also noted that at the moment, Kyrgyzstan is also actively working on 17 more hydroelectric power stations.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, a total of 6.486 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity were generated in the country from January through May 2023, which is 17.3 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
Kyrgyzstan is actively pursuing the development of hydroelectricity. This includes the rehabilitation of the Toktogul Hydropower Plant (HPP), the commissioning of the second hydraulic unit of the Kambarata HPP, and the modernization of the Uch-Kurgan HPP.
