BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 18. Gazprom has spent around $374 million (32 billion soms) updating the gas infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country Akylbek Japarov said at an event marking the 10th anniversary of Gazprom Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.
According to him, this amount really takes the cake compared to the initial projections.
"Over the past 10 years, Gazprom Kyrgyzstan has become a key player in the country's gas supply efforts. The level of gas supply of the population has risen from 22 percent in 2014 to 40 percent in 2024, thanks to the implementation of large-scale projects such as the construction and reconstruction of the main gas pipeline. More than 1,400 kilometers of street gas networks have been built, creating 20,000 jobs," he said.
Japarov also noted that the "Gazprom – for Children" program has facilitated the construction of sports and health complexes across the country.
"Gas supply plays a crucial role in economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens. The volume of natural gas consumption has increased from 210 to 500 million cubic meters over the past 10 years," he added.
He emphasized that cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia also includes education, culture, and the arts.
"We highly value Russia's contribution to the development of the education sector, including the provision of school buses and funding for new school construction," Japarov remarked.
