BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Iran's crude steel production in the four months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through July 21, 2024) diminished by 5.8 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iran's Steel Producers Association report shows that the nation produced 10.8 million tons of crude steel during the past four months, compared to the same period last year. (nearly 11.4 million tons).

Meanwhile, 7.68 million tons of steel products were manufactured in Iran, compared to 7.82 million tons in the four months last year.

The country produced about 14.5 million tons of sponge iron in the reporting period of 2024, meaning an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same period last year (nearly 13 million tons).

Besides, 23.3 million tons of iron ore pellets were produced in Iran during the four months., marking a rise of 2.1 percent from the same period last year (nearly 22.9 million tons).

Additionally, over the past four months, about 26.2 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced in Iran, representing an increase of 16.7 percent compared to the same period last year (22.4 million tons) .

To note, in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel, up 5.5 percent compared to the four months previous year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023) when 30.4 million tons were produced.

The country's steel production potential is sitting at around 40 million tons per year, and it aims to ramp up the potential to a whopping 55 million tons by 2025.
