BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. A total of $3.5 billion will be spent in Iran by next summer (2025) to build renewable energy power plants with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts, Iran's deputy energy minister and chairperson of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization Mohsen Tarztalab told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, a maximum of 130 megawatts per year has been added to the potential of renewable energy power plants in the country over the past two decades.
Tarztalab stated that it has now been decided to build 25,000 megawatts of solar power plants and 5,000 megawatts of wind power plants in the next three years. Altogether, funds worth $15 billion will be spent in this regard.
The official added that attracting investors, organizing tenders based on China's $5 billion loan, organizing an international tender, building renewable energy power plants with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts by the public sector, and building renewable energy power plants with investments by oil and gas companies are in the focus of attention of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization.
To note, the production potential of renewable energy power plants in Iran is 1,347 megawatts. Its 835 megawatts belong to solar power plants.
