Some private banks in Iran have started to offer MasterCard. Using MasterCard and other international credit cards was impossible while Iran was under sanctions. The sanctions were lifted in 2016.
The least credit of the cards currently issued by private banks in Iran is 100 euros and the ceiling is 3,000 euros, Mehr news agency reported March 17.
As early as sanctions were removed in January 2016, there were talks about the coming of international credit cards to Iran. Many a time did ministers or banks say their coming was imminent, but with no show.
The cards are difficult to find their way to Iran because of their American origin. A set of primary sanctions by the US is still in place, restricting the use of the dollar for Iran.
However, now there are unofficial reports that some private banks in Iran have started cooperation with European banks in order to be able to issue MasterCard and visa cards for Iranians.
