Tehran, Iran, August 22
Trend:
The head of Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization said 460 megawatts of renewable capacity will be added to the national power grid per annum to economize fossil fuels and meet the country’s energy needs.
Currently, renewable energy output capacity stands at 640 MW, but upon the completion of projects by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (started March 21), a total of 1,100 MW of new wind and solar power plants will be ready to use, Mohammad Sadeqzadeh said, IRIB news agency reported on August 22.
He added that major investments have been made by the government, as well as the private sector in the sector of renewable energy, stressing that the process of collecting energy from renewable resources has witnessed great growth in recent years.
Developed countries have long been convinced that heavy reliance on fossil fuels is not in their interest and, therefore, increasingly deployed renewable energies to meet their energy needs.
Reportedly, Germany, Italy, India, the US, and China top the list of countries that have successfully used solar energy to produce electricity.
Iran holds some of the world's biggest oil and gas reserves and renewable energy sources have long remained under the shadow of fossil fuels that meet most of the country's energy needs.
