( dpa )- African-American candidate Barack Obama was projected to win Saturday's Democratic presidential primary in the Gulf Coast state of Louisiana, US television networks reported.
Obama led former first lady Hillary Clinton by 53 per cent to 39 per cent with 40 per cent of the votes counted in the state, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
A victory in Louisiana would give Obama a three-state sweep over Clinton Saturday, boosting his momentum and further tightening the contest to become the party's candidate in the November 4 election.
