Ferrero Waldner welcomes Georgia's steps

Commissioner responsible for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero Waldner has delivered a report on implementation of action plan, which was signed between the EU and neighborhood policy countries (including Georgia).

The Brussels conference was broadcasted in Tbilisi.

This was the second report on the implementation of liabilities assumed by Georgia on the basis of plan of actions achieved between Georgia and EU. The first report was published in April 2008.

Besides Georgia, Ferrero Waldner delivered reports on twelve countries.

Ferrero Waldner welcomed Georgia's steps in her report.

She encouraged Georgia to introduce new dynamic to the policy and economy reforms, which will accelerate country's integration to EU within the European Neighborhood Policy.  

European Commission representative in Georgia Per Eklund commented the report. According to him, Georgia faced many challenges in 2008. The report said that in 2008 Russia took steps to deepen relations with the separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. There occurred incidents with the usage of military forces in order to take control over S.Ossetia. In August 2008, the incident turned into military conflict. Azerbaijan armistice agreement was achieved through support of the EU. The EU Council supported the territorial integrity of Georgia. Georgia has reached tangible progress in combating corruption, as well as in legislation and education spheres.
