Italian Ambassador to Turkey Carlo Marsili said his country supported Turkey's EU membership bid, indicating that this has become a state policy, reported Worldbulletin.

Marsili said Turkey's position and role have come more important when recent developments in the Caucasus were taken into consideration, adding that Italy monitored the developments regarding Turkey's proposal to establish Stability Platform in the Caucasus. He said it would not be so easy to succeed in the project when disorder in the region was considered.

Marsili said a conference would be organized in Italy in November on developments regarding Caucasus, adding that Turkey's Ambassador in Rome Ugur Ziyal would attend the conference.

Marsilli said Turkey was the third biggest trade partner of Italy.

Anadolu Agency (A.A) Executive Board President & Director General Dr. Hilmi Bengi said on Monday that bilateral relations between Turkey and Italy improved recently.

Speaking at the visit of Carlo Marsili, Italian Ambassador to Turkey, to A.A., Bengi referred to the cooperation between Italian news agency ANSA and A.A.

"ANSA and A.A. exchange news stories and photograph within the scope of a cooperation agreement. Separately, A.A. journalists went to Italy to get training in ANSA within the framework of an EU project," Bengi said.
