Council of North Atlantic Alliance Meeting in Tbilisi to Pave Way for New Stage of NATO-Georgia Relations: Expert

Georgia, Tbilisi, 11 September/ Trend , corr N. Kirtskhalia/ Expert Irakli Menagarishvili believes that meeting of Council of North Atlantic Alliance will pave a way for a new stage of NATO-Georgia relations. He said he does not expect any document to be signed at this meeting, but Georgia-NATO relations will be seriously revised.

Expert said the decision to set up NATO-Georgia commission adopted in special NATO summit will be discussed at the meeting. "The practical issues of NATO-Georgia commission's work may be discussed. The commission is likely to begin functioning after the meeting," Menagarishvili said.

He also commented on NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer's visit who will preside over the meeting.

Expert said this visit is very important as Scheffer plans to hold a number of meetings with governmental institutions and civil society and opposition as well. "This visit promises al lot and we are hopeful that it will yield results," expert said.

Members of the North Alliance and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer are expected to visit Georgia on 15-16 September.
