Uzbekistan joins treaty

Uzbekistan has acceded to the CIS treaty on interstate searches for fugitives.

A presidential decree was signed today at a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Moscow in December 2010.

The treaty aims to establish effective mechanisms for cooperation of the CIS member states in the interstate search for fugitives.

It applies to fugitives from law enforcement agencies and other authorities.

The document will also contribute to identify person, who is unable to provide master data, as well as in the case of detection of an unidentified corpse.

The agreement defines the concept, forms and areas of cooperation between law enforcement and other competent bodies of the CIS countries in the interstate search for fugitives, order of the direction and execution of queries. The Interior Ministry was defined as the central competent authority responsible for executing the contract in Uzbekistan.
