MP Asef Hajiyev, head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Co-operation (BSEC), stated that Russia cannot favor ethnic conflicts in any form. He was commenting on the circulation of a memorandum on non-recognized countries in the post-Soviet area by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN, Trend reports.

Hajiyev stressed that this does not mean that Russia supports conflict. I held talks with the Russian MPs and they unilaterally support a rapid resolution to the conflicts, the Azerbaijani MP noted. Nevertheless, Hajiyev does not believe that Russia would support such conflicts. It is actually a problem for Russia and existence of such conflicts in the neighboring countries poses a danger for Russia as well.

The Foreign Ministers of the non-recognized republics in the post-Soviet territory appealed to the U.N. permanent members not to support the initiative of GUAM countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldavia) regarding frozen conflicts.

The memorandum signed by the representatives of unrecognized republics such as Abkhazia, Pridnestrov and South Osetia states that the agenda of the 61st session of the U.N. General Assembly added an item On prolonged conflicts in the territory of GUAM and their impact on the international world, security and development. The item was offered by Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Moldavia.

The issue that the question regarding the impact of the conflict existing in the region is raised in the General Assembly, but not in the Security Council, once again, confirms that this is aimed at provocation demarche, but not as care about the world, mentioned in the statement.

Thereafter, the appeal of the representatives of the unrecognized republics describes their creation history, particularly the link of their creation to the collapse of the USSR. Appeal to the U.N. permanent members, call for not allowing the discussions on the item offered by GUAM. In addition, they require ensuring their participation in the discussions.
